  • ReLiCS: A complicated software package to estimate the residual life of crane structures. This project involved the development of a special language to parametrically describe structures of cranes, their sections, movements and loads. A finite analysis engine was developed and incorporated into the system to calculate the loading process of the crane structures during simulated operation. Loads are applied to the structure sections to determine the fatigue damage and/or crack growth. All this is supported by a rich and nice user interface.
    Professor Sokolov from the "Lifting and Transportation Equipment" department of the St. Petersburg State Technical University wrote the underlying mathematics for fatigue damage and crack growth. The Russian government ratified this program as an authorized means of determining if damaged cranes can be used safely, and it is still in use today.
